Chennai: The State Government has said the commercial taxes department is fully geared to implement the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act to come into effect across the country from midnight.

The Additional Chief Secretary of Commercial Taxes said 650 workshops had been planned throughout the State to clear doubts of tax payers. Workshops will also be held at the level of every commercial taxes district.

Help Desks have been set up in each assessment circle and a facilitation centre in every commercial taxes district. All tax officials have been trained in GST Acts and imparted with hands-on-training in GSTN software application. Refresher training will also be held.

The authorities have been instructed to facilitate the smooth transition to the GST regime and extend all help to tax payers.

As on date, more than 91 per cent of the 6.5 lakh dealers registered with the commercial tax department have migrated to the GSTN platform.

Tax payers have been issued provisional IDs under GST and can continue their business for three months using this provisional ID.

Similar arrangements have been made by the Central Government through the central goods and services tax department.
