Touching Hearts with Calipers for DNA-Handicapped and Autism Kids” for 100 Special Children.

Coimbatore : Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown’s Signature Project – Stand and Walk 2023 – Caliper distribution for 100 Special Children. The Stand and Walk project initiated by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown in Rotary International District 3201, is aimed at assisting differently abled children and adults in their journey towards standing and then walking independently. Rotary International District 3201 Governor Rtn T R Vijaykumar, was the chief guest for the caliper distribution event “Stand and Walk”, giving away calliper to 100 differently-abled Children. The primary objective of this program is to enhance the mobility and independence of differently abled individuals. The Stand and Walk project focuses on two particular groups of beneficiaries- Children with DNA handicaps and Autism kids aged between 8 and 14 along with special people of all age groups who need calipers to overcome their immobility.

Speaking on the occasion, Project Chairman and Rotaract District Advisor Rtn A Godwin Maria Visuwasam said, ‘Stand and Walk’ is a signature project of the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown which is being implemented effectively by the members of this club for the past four years and has added about 400 differently-abled beneficiaries so far. This year Anamalais Toyota and Asian Fabrix, Karur have joined hands with the club by contributing their mite as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. With the able support of our parent club Rotary club of Coimbatore Midtown who are our manufacturing partner, we were able to identify 100 children by conducting camps in various places in and around Coimbatore with the support of Government SSA center. Our calliper beneficiary, Mr. Mohan, a sportsman representing our nation in sitting volleyball and throw ball, stands as a testimony for the success of the Stand and Walk project.

The special invitees for the function were District Director Rth Gokulraj, Assistant Rotary Governor Rtn Venkat , Dy. MD of Anaamalais Toyota Rtn Vigneshwar, Rotary Club of Coimbatore Down Town President Rtn Mohanraj, Project Chairman, Rotaract District Advisor Rtn A Godwin Maria Visuvasam, Secretary Rtn Guhan, Treasurer Rtn Vignesh, Rotary Coimbatore Midtown Limb Centre representative Rtn Prakash and members of Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown were present at the function. The event was held at Grand Regent Hotel located on the arterial Avinashi Road in the city.
