Coimbatore Super Smashers, the city first professional pickleball team which is also a part of the Global Sports League, is organizing the first edition of Coimbatore Pickleball Open at Pickleball Clubhouse at Trichy Road on 23.8.25 (Saturday) and 24.8.25 (Sunday).

This is Tamil Nadu’s first Pickleball World Rankings (PWR) 200 tournament. While PWR 50 represents inter-club-level tournaments and PWR 100 represents entry-level tournaments, PWR 200 denotes tournaments that are held at regional level, where multiple clubs from various cities clash to receive more points and reach higher stages.

This tournament will be divided into 10 categories that will allow players of different skill levels and age to participate. Coimbatore District Collector G.Pavankumar I.A.S., will take part in the event as the Chief Guest. R.Sundar, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust will address the press and media post the launch of this tournament.

Some of the prominent players in the pickleball circuit in India will be a part of this event. The confirmed players include Chennai-based players Saravanan, Venkatesh, Jaishnu, Anish, and Vishwajith, and Bangalore-based Gowtham, Ranjith, Spaden, and Aditya Pradeep. Vinay Sethia of Kolkata is also a registered participant of the competition.

These established names will be joined by Coimbatore-based Boopathy and Rithika, making it a diverse pool of talent that is spread across regions. The total prize money is Rs.4 lakhs + goodies worth Rs.3 lakh. The event will be livestreamed on FanCode, an OTT platform and will also be aired live on YouTube.

This tournament is recognised by the Indian Pickleball Association, and officials from the association will oversee it to ensure PWR ranking compliance for open categories.

It is also a Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) system-ranked pickleball event, hence players’ skill level and accomplishments in this tournament will also be measured and rated under DUPR.

This tournament is especially timely. The pickleball scene in India is developing at a faster pace. The World Pickleball League has already started franchise teams in key cities. The Global Sports Pickleball League features teams like Mumbai Chhatrapati Warriors, establishing the sport’s commercial viability with prominent celebrity ownership.

On the inaugural day of the tournament, Coimbatore Super Smashers will officially launch their franchise team. The announcement is expected to mark the team’s formal entry into India’s professional pickleball circuit.
