A clerk of a government-run textile mill in the city was arrested on charges of irregularities to the tune of Rs.40 lakhs, by selling cotton waste over a period of time.
According to the police, Nandakumar, hailing from Erode, was working as a clerk on temporary basis and was also supervising the cotton waste being sent out to various places.
During a periodical inspection, it came to light that there was irregularity of 88,000 kilos of cotton waste, worth Rs.40 lakhs. The management immediately lodged a complaint against the clerk.
After investigation, police arrested Nandakumar late last night.
