TNAU scientists find giant mushroom weighing 6.5 kilos

A team of scientists of the Department of Plant Pathology, of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Coimbatore has collected a huge mushroom near a Mayflower tree at Narasimhapalayam, on the outskirts of the city.

The research scientists, led by Dr. A.S. Krishnamoorthy and B. Priyadharshini, a Ph.D student, found the 6.5 kg robust mushroom in the morning today.

The mushroom belongs to the family of Tricolomataceace and species of calocybe Indica commonly called milky mushroom. The shelf life of the mushroom is about seven days and the particular species grows at high temperatures and humidity.
