The students of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) presented their experience after completing their 90-day Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme.
The 90-day-long RAWE programme began on August 6 and ended on November 3. 96 B.Sc. Agriculture students, including 63 girls from Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts participated in the project, which included 90 days stay in the village, internship with the office of the Assistant Director of Agriculture for 10 days, working with an NGO and with the agro industry for 10 days each.
As part of the practical training, the students were attached with the farmers in the village, who guided them on the various aspects of agriculture, including cropping pattern, farming systems, soil types, irrigation sources, cultivation practices, and value addition.
The students also learned how to apply management techniques in core areas of business management and in successful running of a farm.
