Treated elephant found dead near Narasipuram

Coimbatore : A 55-year-old female elephant, which returned to the jungles yesterday after treatment, was found dead today. It had been suffering from intestinal ailment, including diarrhoea, and was found lying in a private farm in Narasipuram on the outskirts couple of days ago.

On information, forest department officials rushed to the spot. Veterinarian N S Manoharan started treating the ailing elephant from last morning and supported by cranes an earth movers, it was able to stand on its own, forest department sources said.

After showing signs of improvement the pachyderm returned to the forest area last evening. But department officials who went to the forest this morning noticed the elephant lying dead. Arrangements were made to bury it, they added.
