A Mysore-based NGO claimed that a majority of college students of the city were addicted to watching rape and teen pornography.

The NGO, RESCUE has addressed and interacted with more than 8,000 students in the city colleges in the last five weeks and carried out a survey in 10 colleges and 400 students, Abishek Clifford, its Chief Executive Officer, told reporters here on Friday.

As many as 40 students per class were asked indirect questions about their friends like what percentage of guys their age watched rape videos, how much porn did they watch each week. The age of the target group was between 18 and 21.

“Boys start watching such videos on an average from Standard X. Nearly 70 per cent watch four hours of sex videos a week, including child porn and rape,” Clifford said, while adding that porn addiction was epidemic, even in rural areas and was the latest bad drug, more addictive than cocaine.

Thirty one per cent college students watched violent porn, rape and gang rape and watched an average of 17 rapes per week, which meant that 6,700 students started watching rape in the city each year through Internet, Clifford said.

On ways to control the menace, Clifford said that there should be a cyber police division in Tamil Nadu, which would deal exclusively with Internet porn. This should be run exclusively by lady officers, since the existing cyber police cells were fully busy dealing with hacking, terrorism and Internet fraud.

On child porno and using girls as sex slaves, he said that porn watching led to a desire to see younger girls, and hence 40 per cent of students watched ‘teen porn’ on their mobiles.

A total of 29,000 boys this age watched child porn regularly and 12,000 of them tried out what they saw on prostitutes.

Nearly 360 high school girls were being kidnapped every year in Coimbatore according to Crime Bureau of India statistics, to feed this perverse desire, Clifford added.

Based on the survey, the inference of these results meant that a million boys in the study age group of 18-21 watched child porn in Tamil Nadu, four lakh boys visited prostitutes, seven lakh boys watched rape, and 1.5 million rapes were watched a day, Clifford said.
