Coimbatore : The City Police Commissioner, K Periahiah today inaugurated a week-long expo on Hernia and free consultation camp, organised by Gem Hospital.
Since the incident of getting hernia for a common man in his life time is around 25 per cent, such expo is necessary to create awareness among the public so that they can clear the doubts and myth, Hospital Chairman Dr C Palanivelu said at the function.

If the hernia is not treated in time, it may cause life threatening complications like bowel obstruction and gangrene, he said.
All details regarding hernia will be explained to the public and they will be given free consultations on hernia. P Laparoscopic surgery will be performed for those in need at a concessional rate.
The Expo is organised to commemorate the 25 years of laparoscopic hernia surgery performed in the hospital, the first in India, Palanivelu said.
