More than 200 students from various engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu today attended a workshop on international motor sports engineering conducted to create awareness on the technicalities involved in the sports.

The workshop, held at the Kumaraguru College of Technology, was organised by the Department of Automobile Engineering in association with ARA Institute of Canterbury at Christchurch, New Zealand.

Talking about motor sports engineering in his country, Greame Harris, lecturer of Mechanical Engineering at the AIA Institute, explained about vehicles used in motor sports in New Zealand adding they were equipped with unique engineering designs.

He also emphasized on the importance of linking motor sports with academics.

N. Leelakrishnan, chief technical director, Red Rooster Performance, Bengaluru, another panelist, highlighted how the vehicles were on the track and explained about fine tuning its performance.

“The area is not just limited to professional race car drivers but also to engineering students, who get inspired by designing the apt car for the race track,” he added.
