10 home remedies to relieve stomach ulcers



Stomach ulcers, also known as peptic ulcers, gastric ulcers, occur when stomach acid irritates the lining of the stomach. They are caused by bacterial infection, long-term use of anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen or aspirin among others

Ulcer manifests through a burning sensation in their stomach. The sensation

* lasts a few minutes or several hours

* eases after taking antacids or stopping food intake

* starts in the middle of the night or during meals

* Occurs off and on for several weeks

According to Medical News Today, some natural home remedies can relieve the pain from ulcers. Here are 10 ways:

1) Probiotics

Found in yogurt, fermented foods, probiotics are great for gut health. These living organisms reduce the amount of bacteria present in the gut and speed up the healing process.

2) Ginger

At home, if your mom has prescribed ginger as a cure for variety of digestive conditions, then you are not alone. Ginger has been traditionally used in Indian homes for a variety of uses, including gut problems.

Studies have shown that ginger can help treat gastric ulcers caused by H. pylori bacteria. But these results are from animal studies, so it unclear about their effects of humans.

3) Colourful fruits

Some fruits such as apple, lemon, oranges, nuts, and blueberries contain flavonoids, which give them their rich colour. While making them attractive, flavonoids also help treat stomach ulcers, diarrhea among others, according to a 2011 review. And flavonoids protect the stomach line by increasing stomach mucus, which inhibits growth of H. pylori.

4) Plantain bananas

In India, especially in the south, one often encounters sabzis made of plantain bananas. And, of course, there are the ubiquitous chips. According to one study from 2011, unripe plantains may be good for treating peptic ulcers as they contain a flavonoid called leucocyanidin.

5) Honey Need we say anything.

Everyone loves honey. According to one 2016 study, honey has antimicrobial effects against H. pylori bacteria, a sign that it could work in treating stomach ulcers.

6) Turmeric

A staple of Indian cooking, turmeric contains a compound called curcumin. A 2013 study found that curcumin has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

7) Chamomile

Chamomile flowers and chamomile teas have been used to treat minor anxiety, intestinal spasms, and inflammation. A review study published in 2012 reports that chamomile extracts may also have anti-ulcer properties.

8) Garlic

Widely used in cooking worldwide, garlic has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, which make it helpful in fighting infections. A 2016 study on animals showed that garlic could help prevent the development of ulcers.

9) Licorice

A spice native to the Mediterranean region and Asia, licorice has been used in traditional medications for hundreds of years, with many claiming that dried licorice root can cure ulcers. However, research has focused on the use of supplements, not dried licorice root. So, people interested in using this spice for ulcers may want to try it as a supplement.

10) Aloe vera

Aloe vera is commonly found in many topical lotions, cosmetics, and foods. Some studies have found use of aloe vera in the treatment of stomach ulcers to be beneficial. For example, one 2011 study on rats reported that aloe vera treated ulcers in a similar way to a popular anti-ulcer medication.
