Hoping for a smarter zoo

VOC Zoo near Nehru Stadium is one of the few recreation spaces for the otherwise entertainment starved Coimbatore. There seems to be mixed reactions on shifting the zoo to Ettimadai, which is over 20 kms from the city. While Coimbatore is talking about Swachh Bharat, the zoo lacks cleanliness and the facilities here leave a lot more to be desired. Many animals are cramped in the same cage due to space constraints. Even as the corporation had embarked on an adoption scheme, where each one can adopt a bird or an animal at the zoo, there has been no takers. Now that Coimbatore is all set to become a smart city, will the Zoo get smarter too?
