Mahatma’s Madurai connection

Gandhi Museum, next to Meenakshi Temple, is another major landmark of Madurai. Inaugurated by Pandit Jawahar lal Nehru in 1959, the museum has many exhibits, including his spectacles and blood-stained clothes he was wearing when he was shot dead, on display. It draws hundreds of visitors, especially students on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi.
