Manual scavenging of manhole sewage is continuing unabated despite laws and campaigns against it.In order to alleviate the hazards associated with manual scavenging, a team of five men from Thiruvananthapuram have built a robot that was recently introduced in Coimbatore.
In an interview with The Covai Post, they explained that the robot has sensors to detect poisonous gas inside the sewage and has an arm that can scrape off the dirt and mud lining the drainage walls.
