The biggest consumer electronics and technology event of the year, Consumer Electronics Show, is betting big on the future homes.

While this year, the rookies are betting big on virtual reality and automotive marvels, there is another important aspect that will all eyes set on it – the future of homes.

The future of homes is driven by application of Internet and connected devices via cloud platforms and their functioning in tandem.

PropGuide lists some interesting launches that will be showcased at CES 2016, being held in Las Vegas. These new launches are set to make the future homes a dream to live in:

Smart televisions

Wondering why we are talking about this electronic device when talking about the future of homes? What if Samsung claims that this year they will be launching a smart TV that can talk to your smart devices. Now what does that mean? Well, it means that through voice commands your TV will be able to interact and instruct other smart home systems. So, basically you will be able to unlock your doors, control thermostat or even switch on/off electrical appliances.

Voice assisted products

Following the footsteps of Amazon, LG is going to unveil its own voice assisted cloud enabled smart device ‘Hub’. This gadget will send notifications from appliances and sensors, display reminders and stream music – much like Amazon’s Echo, a voice assisted product. Though Amazon Echo was first such product in this field, LG Hub is expected to work more seamlessly as the brand already has an array of home appliances.

Connected home service

O2, the wireless service provider from the UK, is in works to unveil a connected home service by summer. The service aims to offer a range of devices that can link to single hub, including smart plugs, cameras, intruder alarms, door locks etc. O2 aims to manage the connected services both remotely and automatically via an app. O2 claims their software will learn from usage pattern of users and will ensure an efficient use of energy.

3D scanning

Refurbishing or remodelling a house is a tedious task. And, as this calls for a lot of effort, most people refrain themselves from indulging in a home remodelling exercise. But, how would you like if you could 3D scan your home and then a software does all the algorithmic calculation to readjust your household.

This interesting service can soon be availed through an app launched by a startup called MyCaptR. Via your tablet, the app can scan a particular room in nearly three minutes, and then it will decide how to remodel a home or office.

Smart security providers

The problem with outdoor security systems is that while it captures any movement outside your house, it essentially never notifies who or what is intruding in real time. Well, here is a company that plans to do exactly that. Netamo will unveil a product called Presence that is wirelessly connected to your smartphone via an app. What’s more? It also sends real-time notifications about any movement – whether an animal, person or car.
