In some good news for non-resident Indians (NRIs), the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission recently asked realty major Supertech to pay around Rs 64 lakh to an NRI for denying possession of a flat in Greater Noida. Presided by Justice J M Malik, the consumer commission directed the firm to pay Delhi residents who had booked a flat in 2008. The court ruled that NRIs, too, are consumers and can purchase any flat in India. Read more

After much delay, SmartCity Kochi is all set for its Phase-I inauguration and the launch of its Phase-II on February 20. This was stated by Kerala Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson in Kochi recently. The Maharashtra government has directed municipal corporations across the state to conduct a survey of all old and dilapidated buildings before the onset of monsoon. The civic bodies have been asked to follow the guidelines of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation with regards to the re-development of old and dilapidated buildings which will be demolished soon. The government has further asked the civic bodies to disconnect water and electricity supply in case residents therein refuse to vacate them. Read more

To strengthen the aviation sector in Gujarat, the state government has planned to set up the country’s first-ever Aviation Park in Bagodara near Ahmedabad. The park will have a slew of facilities, including an airstrip, a training school, a helipad and space for setting up small manufacturing units, among others. Read more
