Chennai: Police officials today seized more than a tonne of dog meat brought from Rajasthan. According to sources, the meat was packed in 11 polystyrene boxes and brought in Jodhpur Express.
Foul smell from the parcels kept at platform Number 5 made Egmore station officials look into the matter.
They opened the boxes and suspected the consignment to be dog meat. However it is not clear who this consignment was brought for. According to documents, the parcel was booked by someone from Gandhidham in Gujarat and was dispatched three days ago. Food safety officials suspect that meat might have been brought to be sold as Rajasthani one at low price.
Confiscated meat samples were sent to Madras Veterinary College for tests.
