Chennai : Karti Chidambaram, son of former union finance minister P Chidambaram, was on Wednesday arrested by CBI from Chennai airport the moment he landed from London, in connection with a money laundering case in the INX media.

He is alleged to have indulged in money laundering as also alleged to have misused his father’s position in getting FPIB clearances to INX Media.

Karti Chidambaram was kept at the airport itself and it is believed to be taken to Delhi and produced before a CBI court in Delhi.

Karti Chidambaram was earlier summoned by the Enforcement directorate too in this case, but Karti Chidambaram had challenged the summons in the Supreme Court, which has refused to stay the summons.

Karti Chidambaram’s arrest comes soon after the arrest of his chartered accountant S Bhaskaran. Political commentators here are wondering as to timing of the arrest.

Sumanth C Raman, a political analyst said that this arrest could to be deflect attention away from the PNB Bank fraud featuring Nirav Modi.
