Chennai : Opposition leader, DMK working president MK Stalin urged the state government to invite the protesting teachers and government employees for talks to redress their grievances instead of taking police action against them.

On Tuesday, several protesting teachers and government employees were taken into custody after they held up traffic on busy Anna Salai. Members of the Joint Action Committee of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organisations-Government Employees’ Organisations (JACTTO-GEO) were arrested when they tried to take out a march towards the state secretariat at St Fort George.

The demands of the protesters include reverting to old pension scheme, payment of arrears and rectification of anomalies in the pay commission recommendations. Earlier the key leaders of the JACTTO-GEO were taken into preventive custody.

For some time, traffic flow was affected on the arterial Anna Salai and Kamarajar Salai due to the protests.

DMK leader Stalin met the arrested JACTTO GEO members briefly and expressed solidarity with them. He urged Palaniswami to invite leaders of JACTTO GEO for talks to resolve the issue.
