Women lift stone grinders weighing 45 kilograms in Tirunelveli

Residents of Vadalivilai village near Panakudi in Tirunelveli district participated in Mattu Pongal celebrations on Monday. Several women lifted stone grinders weighing 45 kilograms. Similarly men lifted rocks weighing 90 kg. Two youths – Muthupandi and Chellapandi – were awarded cash prize of Rs. 2000 each for rotating their necks. Prizes were also given to Dinesh and Murugan for removing the outer cover of coconuts and also to all the women who lifted the stone grinders.
