The Arc Foundation-India, a Coimbatore-based NGO has joined hands with the Corporation to rank 350 schools in Coimbatore based on their sanitary conditions.

According to a press release, the city-level ranking of schools done as part of Central Government’s Swachh Survekshan-2018, was undertaken by CCMC to assess the hygienic status of each school in the city, including corporation, government, government-aided and private schools.

Over 350 schools in the city limits have been picked for the survey. A meeting involving all school heads was conducted to orient them on Swachh Survekshan programme.

About 1400 youth swachh ambassadors have been nominated and oriented on Swachh Survekshan-2018 to carry out the activities of Swachh Bharath Mission.

As many as 50 schools were covered in the first phase of Swachh Survekshan ranking done on December 14, 175 schools were covered the next day and 125 schools on December 18.

Swachh ranking approach and methodology included notifications, self- assessment, independent validation, direct observation and personal interview. Results would be announced and the schools would be rewarded by the Corporation before the end of December.

Currently, the NGO is working with Indian Medical Association on Swachh Survekshan rankings for hospitals in Coimbatore, the results of which will also be announced by this month.
