Minor girl immolates self

A 14-year-old girl immolated herself after her father scolded her for not helping her mother in household work.
According to police, Deepa, a ninth grader from Government Higher Secondary School, Valparai, was reprimanded often by her father Kanagaraj, a daily wage worker, for not helping her mother in household work.
On December 28, he scolded Deepa for the same reason.
Upset with this, Deepa poured kerosene and immolated herself. She was rushed to Pollachi Government Hospital with 65 per cent burns. She was later shifted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital, where she died on Tuesday without responding to the treatment.
Valparai police have registered a case under Section 174 of IPC. Deepa’s body was handed over to her parents after post-mortem.
