The Tamil Maanila Congress President, G.K. Vasan, on Wednesday said his party would decide on entering into an alliance with the yet to be formed political party of Rajinikanth, based on its principles and policies.

Welcoming the actor’s entry into politics, Vasan said Rajini was not new to the field.

“Rajinikanth has been part of the State politics for the last three decades. Leaders of various political parties have called on him and discussed many issues with him,” Vasan told reporters at Tiruppur.

The TMC leader, who was in Tiruppur to pay homage to his party’s student wing secretary Prasanth (who diedi in an accident on December 31), brushed away rumours that someone was behind Rajinikanth in announcing his decision. “No one can direct Rajini in politics,” he added.

On the proposed NMC, Vasan urged the Centre to reverse its decision. He called for streamlining of GST as “it has badly affected the knitwear industry in Tiruppur”.
