Chennai: Kamal Haasan the politician is speaking out, this time against successive governments, for neglecting the farmer and agricultural sectors and in fact destroying the traditional farm practices and landing the farmer in a soup in the process.

In his weekly column in Ananda Vikatan, Kamal Haasan took the Edapaddi Palaniswami government to task for neglecting the farmers and rural Tamil Nadu due to which the agrarian crisis was accentuated and there was unchecked migration away from villages.

Kamal Haasan said that he was beginning his political journey from villages and his march would start from Ramanathapuram on February 21 and then in the evening address a rally at Madurai, where villagers from nearby villages are to congregate.

Kamal Haasan also said that he will adopt few villages to show to the people how they can be turned around. He said his recent visit to the US was aimed at getting people living there to invest money, effort and personal time in villages of Tamil Nadu to turn them around.

“Indian entrepreneurs in the US ready to invest their expertise in TN villages,” the superstar said. There is need to marry the modern science and traditional knowledge so that technologies relevant to the small and marginal farmer prospers, he said adding that the model village will address the farm sector issues as well.

For the present the rural Tamil Nadu has been witnessing the phenomenon of real estate companies gobbling agricultural lands and turning them into residential colonies and commercial properties. There are a spate of engineering colleges too that have come up on agricultural lands, Kamal Haasan said adding that the trend of worrisome and needed to be checked.
