COIMBATORE: Few members of the BJP Youth wing on Wednesday burnt the effigy of MDMK General Secretary Vaiko for his alleged denigrating remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to police, the members gathered near Gandhipuram Bus stand and raised slogans against Vaiko, who reportedly called Modi as ‘coward’ and challenged to travel by road so that he can be shown black flags over Cauvery issue.

Even before police reached the spot, some of them burnt Vaiko’s effigy. They called Vaiko a ‘political broker’ even as some activists led by State Youth Wing Secretary Vinoj Selvam, were busy raising slogans.

Police managed to put off the fire and arrested those involved in the act.

Meanwhile, DMK activists were engaged in door to door distribution of black flags to be hoisted atop the houses and requested people’s cooperation in this regard.
