48th Edition of League Sees Participation from 116 Teams and 1,117 Players

COIMBATORE, JUNE 20, 2026 : The Coimbatore District Tennis Association (CDTA) honoured the winners and participants of the CDTA Inter-Club League Tournament 2026 at a prize distribution ceremony held at Bharathiar Hall, Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, Nava India, on Saturday evening. Former CDTA President and distinguished tennis administrator Mr. K.G. Ramesh, was the Chief Guest and distributed prizes to the winning teams and players.

Following the successful hosting of the historic Davis Cup tie in Coimbatore in 1977, CDTA launched its Inter-Club League in 1978, which has since evolved into one of India’s longest-running and largest district tennis leagues. The 2026 edition completed its 48th consecutive season and featured 116 teams across 11 divisions, with participation from 1,117 players representing Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Pollachi and the Nilgiris.

Addressing the gathering, CDTA Secretary Mr. Sathish Kumar Nair said the Association has played a significant role in the promotion and development of tennis in the region for more than five decades. He noted that the league has expanded from 109 teams in 2024 to 111 teams in 2025 and 116 teams in 2026, reflecting the growing popularity of the sport. During the past year, seven AITA tournaments were conducted in the district, while two events received direct support from CDTA. The Association also continues to support registered academies in organising AITA-approved competitions.

As part of its future vision, the Association announced the formation of the Tournament, Competition and Development Committee (TCDC). The committee will focus on competition development, tournament planning, player pathways, talent identification, coach and officialdevelopment, sponsorship opportunities, infrastructure enhancement and technology-driven initiatives. The committee will also evaluate and recommend new formats and development programs aimed at strengthening the tennis ecosystem across the district.

Presiding over the function, CDTA President Mr. Srinivasan highlighted the Association’s rich legacy and its contribution to tennis development across the region. With a history spanning more than five decades and affiliations to the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) and the All India Tennis Association (AITA), CDTA has been instrumental in producing several distinguished players, including K.G. Ramesh, Nirupama Vaidyanathan, Sriram Balaji, Manoj Kumar Raghavan and Ranjeet Virali-Murugesan, while continuing to nurture the next generation of players competing at national and international levels.

The function concluded with a dinner attended by players, club representatives, officials and members of the tennis fraternity.
