Women lawyers, Christian federation condemn Kathua, Unnao rapes

COIMBATORE: About 50 women lawyers on Tuesday staged a demonstration in the city condemning the rape of two minor girls at Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir and Unnao in Uttar Pradesh.

Raising slogans against the culprits, the agitators demanded that the rapists be given death sentence for the heinous crime. They also wanted the Centre to establish a fast track court for Kathua case, involving the assault and murder of an eight-year-old girl and hold the trial on daily basis.

Meanwhile, All Christian Minorities Federation staged a demonstration condemning the increased attacks on persons belonging to minority communities across the country for the last couple of years.

Blaming the ruling BJP for protecting the those involved in such incidents, the federation also used the platform to condemn the Kathua incident.

About 2,000 persons, including from some organisations and political parties also joined the demonstration, police said.
