Journalists demand arrest of BJP leader Sekhar

Coimbatore : Nearly 70 mediapersons today took out a march from the district collectorate to the City Police Commissioner’s office urging him to file an FIR against BJP leader SV Sekhar for his derogatory remarks against the women journalists and arrest him.

Earlier about 30 mediapersons sat in dharna in front of the District Collectorate protesting against the delay in arresting Sekhar, despite lodging complaints.

As the number grew, they raised slogans against Sekhar and marched towards the office of Commissioner K Periaiah and after meeting him urged for an FIR and arrest of Sekhar.

They cited an earlier incident where the city police had registered cases against music composer Anirudh and actor Silambarasan over a beep song. Periaiah promised to the go through the complaint to take necessary action.

As many 50 mediapersons staged a demonstration in nearby Pollachi too.
