Two Coimbatore girls make suicide bid after announcement of Class 12 results

Coimbatore : Two girl students today attempted to commit suicide for failng in the Class 12 examinations, results of which were announced this morning.

In the first incident, 19-year-old Priya, daughter of a woman head constable, jumped from the second floor of police quarters on Variety Hall Road near railway station as she did not get the expected marks, police said.

Incidentally, she fell on her mother, who was standing on the ground and in the process, Priya fractured her left hand and is undergoing treatment at Government Hospital, they said.

In another incident, 18-year-old Angeline, a resident of Singanallur in the city, consumed phenol kept in the toilet of her house, after coming to know she had failed in the examinations. However, some relatives noticed this and admitted her in the Government Hospital.

Police are investigating both the suicide attempt cases, they said.

Meanwhile, Coimbatore district has registered 95.48 per cent pass, as 34,805 students out of 36,454 appeared in 347 schools and cleared the exams. The district stands eighth in the State, official sources said. Nearby Tirupur district registered 96.1 per cent pass, securing third spot in the State.
