Murder convict alleges torture in jail

Coimbatore : A murder convict today created a scene on the District Court premises here, when he accused the jail authorities of indulging in assault and torture inside the prison.

As Sanjay Raja of the city, undergoing life sentence, was brought from the jail and produce before the 6th Judicial Magistrate Court in connection with another case, he complained that jail authorities were harassing and giving mental torture.

Emerging out of the Court, Sanjay tore his shirt and created scene in front of onlookers and said that he was put in solitary confinement in jail and a senior jail official used to assault him, leading to injuries,police said.

Seeking immediate medical care, he also wanted the Government to shift him to another prison.

As policemen on escort duty took him to the jeep forcibly, a few prisoners, who are being taken to the court, also alleged that they are being harassed in the jail.
