The State Health Department has directed all schools to ensure that no tobacco was sold on its premises. “The schools have been asked to put up a board saying that neither tobacco nor its products are being used in the premises,” said Assistant Director of the department Banumathi.

Addressing nurses and officials of the department on Thursday to mark the World No Tobacco Day, she said action would be taken against those selling tobacco products to those below 18 years of age and near educational institutions. “We will conduct surprise checks periodically to ensure that this rule is followed. By eliminating tobacco, we can prevent heart-related ailments,” she added.
