Udupi: Shiroor Mutt seer Lakshmivara Theertha Swami was a kind-hearted seer who always strived for the welfare of the poor and students but he had many vices, according Pejawar Mutt Seer Vishveshatheertha Swami.

The Pejawara seer made the explosive claim at a press conference in Udupi on Friday. He said that Shiroor seer was interested in women and alcohol, which do not qualify one for being an ascetic. “He was not true to his ascetic self with these vices,” Pejawara seer said.

“There were rumours that Shiroor seer was suffering from kidney and liver problems, which might have deteriorated his health, over the years, the senior seer said. On many occasions, seers from Ashta Mutt had asked him to correct himself, but in vain.”

On mystery surrounding Shiroor Mutt seer’s death, Pejawara seer said “I’m not aware whether the food he consumed was laced with poison or the food turned poisonous which became the cause of his death. Let us wait for the post-mortem report.” “I do not think other mutts have any role in his death.

Someone from his own mutt might be involved in it,” Pejawara seer said. Also read: Shiroor case: Police grill mutt staff, seer’s laptop confiscated Clarifying his stand on not being present during the last rites ceremony, Pejawar seer said he was in Hubballi, hence he could not make it.
