Coimbatore : Constructing the dam at Mekedatu in Karnataka was not acceptable to Tamil Nadu and such a situation would not arise, Union Minister of State for Finance Pon Radhakrishnan said on Saturday.

He told reporters at the airport that no one would accept construction of the reservoir at Mekedatu. “Such a situation will not arise,” he asserted.

On the situatioin in Tamil Nadu after Gaja cyclone, he said he had already discussed the issue (relief measures) with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijjju and “good news is expected soon”.

About the reported remarks on Hindu gods by Naam Tamilar Katchi leader Seeman, Radhakrishnan said he refused to respond but said, “Let him talk politics and about society and if has no belief in spirituality, let him keep quiet.”

Radhakrishnan came down heavily on a section of farmers agitating in New Delhi and said they had degraded the status of other farmers in Tamil Nadu.

Since farmers from various States were participating in the agitation, only a section of farmers from Tamil Nadu were behaving like this, he said.

Alleging that some political parties in Tamil Nadu were financing the agitating farmers, he said as Tamils, this type of agitation should be condemned.

On the reported observation by AICC President, Rahul Gandhi about the increasing unemployment in the country, he quipped, “Only Congressmen are jobless. Let him look into that.”.
