450 held in Coimbatore over Babri Masjid issue

Coimbatore : Nearly 450 persons belonging to various organisations were arrested on Thursday for demonstrating in support and against the Babri Masjid demolition this day in 1992.

According of police, nearly 500 activists of Manithaneya Jananayaka Katchi staged a demonstration seeking reconstruction of the mosque at the same place in Ayodhya.

As the agitators suddenly proceeded towards the city airport to lay siege to it, police prevented and arrested 409 of them. Similarly, 37 workers of Shaktisena and nine of Hindu Makkal Katchi were arrested for celebrating the day as ‘Victory Day’ at two separate places in the city.

Separately, nearly 1,000 workers belonging of SDPI and Muslim Munnetra Kazhakam staged a demonstration at two different places, for which police had given permission.

A few Hindu outfits planned to stage demonstration to celebrate the day late in the evening, police said.
