Brain dead farmer gives life to 6 persons at KMCH

Coimbatore : A 55-year old brain dead farmer became instrumental in giving new lease of life to six persons, by donating his vital organs.

The farmer Shanmugam, native of Arachalur in Erode district, met with an accident on the nigh of February 18 and was taken to Government hospital in Erode for first aid and brought to Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH) for specialised treatment.

Without responding to treatment, he was declared brain dead in the early hours of today, an hospital release said.

The deceased wife and son came forward to donate the organs and accordingly Liver, Kidney, Eyes, Bone and skin were harvested .

While Liver and One Kidney were transplanted at KMCH, Eyes, Skin and Bone were sent to three private hospitals in the city, the release said.
