Heavy rains during the North-East monsoon have helped fill the wetlands in and around Coimbatore City.

The heavy rains in the Ghat region of Coimbatore have largely filled the Noyyal River. Excess waters from the river have been directed to 15 wetlands, including Puthukulam, Vedapattikulam, Narasambathikulam, Selvasinthamanikulam, Krishnampathikilam, Kumarasamykulam, Ukkadam Big Tank, and Valankulam. All these wetlands are almost full now.

Since more rain is expected this season, the remaining tanks including Singanallur tank, Kuniyamuthur tank, and Perur tank are also expected to fill up in the coming days. Wetlands have largely helped farmers by increasing the groundwater levels. With the increasing groundwater levels, farmers have started preparing for sowing the new crop.
