Chennai : DMK leaders are blasting the central government for partisan, deliberate, anti-democratic raids on opposition party candidates in the general elections to Lok Sabha. But the BJP cannot stop the DMK from winning in Tamil Nadu, its leaders said adding in fact, the raids will help the DMK further to strengthen itself.

DMK senior leader and Karunanidhi’s daughter, Kanimozhi, described the raids as anti-democratic, deliberately planned and tested ones. “The BJP cannot stop me from winning in the Lok Sabha elections by mounting pressure through income tax raids,” she told media persons on Wednesday.

Raids took place at Kanimozhi’s residence just two days before polling scheduled to take place on Thursday.

“The teams that raided had returned empty-handed because of the incorrect input they received regarding cash stored in Kanimozhi’s house. IT sources said that it was a ‘false tip’ and no case has been registered.

“BJP cannot prevent my success through this income tax raid. The raid is anti-democratic, deliberately planned and tested and no document has been seized,” Kanimozhi told media persons in Tuticorin from where she is taking on BJP state unit chief Tamilisai Soundararajan. .

“After an hour long search, they left my place having found nothing. As my party chief M K Stalin said, we suspect that Tamilisai (BJP state president and Kanimozhi’s rival candidate) has crores of money at her home. We have seen videos of AIADMK leaders bribing voters in Theni. Will you go and search them?” she asked. Kanimozhi said she was in the house and cooperated with the raiding party, who found nothing.

Stalin has described the use of IT as also money distribution by the ruling parties in state and centre as “murder of democracy”.
