Chennai : Model-turned-politician Smriti Irani, taking on Rahul Gandhi in Amethi is also touring Waynad in Kerala from where also the Congress president is contesting in what now can be described as political messaging that she was working overtime to beat the Gandhi family scion.

Rahul Gandhi’s sister Priyanka Gandhi, recently made general secretary, eastern UP for Congress, also air-dashed to Kerala to canvass for his brother turning the picturesque constituency into a face of of sorts between Priyanka and Smriti.

But away from all this, Rahul Gandhi has got tremendous support from the youth brigade in Waynad – thanks to actor Vijay and his fans. One of the most popular younger film stars in Tamil Nadu, Vijay has a lot of following among the youth and he was also said to be contemplating entry into politics at some stage.

His fan clubs in Kerala have gotten active and his fans are going house to house canvassing support for Rahul Gandhi who is contesting from Waynad. This unexpected support from the youth brigade has only gladdened the Congress leaders like its MP from Puducherry, Namasivayam who said that fans of actor Vijay were going door to door canvassing in the constituency.

Rahul ji will win with a very comfortable margin, he said, and thanked the fans of actor Vijay for pitching in with help.

It may be recalled that a couple of years ago, BJP raised a huge stink over Mersel, Vijay’s film, for his remarks over GST and forced few cuts.

There were violent protests all over Tamil Nadu by the BJP cadres alleging that the actor had made unnecessary comments against the country’s biggest tax reform – GST.

It was not immediately known whether the fan clubs jumped in to campaign on their own or were directed to do so.
