The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has become a member of the World Food Preservation Center (WFPC) LLC, in USA, to reduce the loss of post-harvest food grains in developing countries. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between TNAU and the association today.

TNAU, a leading agro-technology provider in India, was born with the establishment of an agricultural school in Saidapet, Chennai, as early as 1868. The university was relocated to Coimbatore in 1906. The university offers 13 undergraduate degree courses, 33 Post Graduate degree programmes, and 26 doctoral programmes. It also has 32 research centers for agro-technology development and 14 Farm Science Centers (KVKs).

WFPC, LLC is a consortium of twelve major research universities and a research institute spread across six continents, providing post-harvest courses to students of the developing countries.

“We are fortunate to have TNAU joining the World Food Preservation Center LLC in our effort to reduce the post-harvest losses of food in developing countries. Their experience and knowledge will be most valuable to us as we move ahead,” Charles S. Wilson, Founder-chairman and CEO of the centre, said.
