Coimbatore, September 14, 2025 – Coimbatore Nehru Group of Institutions “Drug-Free Kovai” Awareness Marathon was held today (September 14) near the Coimbatore Nehru Stadium. This awareness marathon was inaugurated by Coimbatore South, Dy. Commissioner of Police, Low and Order Mr. G. Karthikeyan.

Dr. P. Krishnakumar, Pro-Chancellor, P.K. Das University and CEO and Secretary, Nehru Group of Institutions, said: – Coimbatore Nehru Group of Institutions , FIT India and Sustainable Development Goals organized a “Drug Free Kovai” Awareness Marathon in front of the Coimbatore Nehru Stadium today.

About 2,300 people, including college students and the general public, participated in this “Drug Free Kovai” Awareness Marathon. In this, two competitions were held in four categories, namely a 3 km marathon for those under 18 years of age and a 5 km one for those over 18 years of age. The first prize for each category was Rs. 5,000 and a medal, certificate, the second prize was Rs. 3,000 and a medal, certificate, and the third prize was Rs. 1,000 and a medal, certificate. All the participants were also given medals, certificates, T-shirts, and breakfast.

This 3 km competition started from Coimbatore Nehru Stadium, took a U-turn in front of the RTO office via Kerala Club, reached Anna Statue and returned to Nehru Stadium via Kerala. The 5km marathon started from Coimbatore Nehru Stadium, went through Kerala Club to Women’s Polytechnic, and again via Anna Statue, reached Nehru Stadium via Kerala Club Road.

Coimbatore South, Dy. Commissioner of Police, Low abd Order Mr. Karthikeyan flagged off the rally and inaugural speech said: – The Tamil Nadu Police and the government are working very hard to completely eradicate drug addiction in Tamil Nadu. Students should study with good discipline and habits during their college days and move forward in life. We should be very careful in choosing our friends. When we think our friends are addicted to bad habits, we should inform the college teachers or their parents and protect their lives.

The arrangements for this awareness marathon program were made by Dr. V Vijayakumar, Principal, Nehru Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, Mr. Arunkumar, Organising Secretary and Convenor Dr. C. A. Aslam Moideen and Dr. S. Marimuthukumar.

In the marathon Principals and Directors, NGI also participate.
