Artificial Intelligence, globalisation and rapid technological transformation are significantly reshaping the Chartered Accountancy profession, creating strong global demand for Indian Chartered Accountants across industries, said former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) CA G. Ramasamy while addressing the first-ever CA Convocation held in Coimbatore.
The convocation ceremony, organised by the Coimbatore Branch of ICAI as part of the nationwide celebrations for newly qualified Chartered Accountants, witnessed around 110 candidates receiving their certificates and convocation degrees. Across India, nearly 10,930 students successfully cleared the CA examinations this year.
The event marked a historic milestone for Coimbatore, which hosted the ICAI convocation ceremony for the first time.
Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, CA G.Ramasamy,Past President of ICAI (2011-12), congratulated the newly qualified professionals and described the occasion as a celebration of years of perseverance, discipline and transformation.
“Chartered Accountancy is no longer confined to bookkeeping and auditing. Today’s CAs are strategists, consultants, risk managers, entrepreneurs and policy advisers,” he said.Highlighting the impact of emerging technologies, he stated that Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, robotics process automation, blockchain, cloud computing and advanced analytics are transforming the profession at an unprecedented pace.
“Technology should not be viewed as a threat, but as an opportunity. The future belongs to professionals who can combine financial expertise with analytical and technological skills,” he observed, adding that data literacy and the ability to derive business insights from large datasets would soon become as important as accounting knowledge itself.
He further noted that virtual CFO services, remote audits and digital collaboration platforms are enabling Indian Chartered Accountants to serve clients across the globe without geographical limitations.
Speaking about global opportunities, CA G. Ramasamy said international business expansion and ICAI’s growing global recognition are opening new avenues for Indian professionals in areas such as IFRS, transfer pricing, international taxation, IPO advisory and cross-border transactions.
He urged young Chartered Accountants to continuously upgrade their skills and specialise in emerging domains including forensic accounting, ESG reporting, valuation and data analytics.Tracing the journey of ICAI, he said the institution, established in 1949 with just 1,700 members and 259 students, has now evolved into the world’s second-largest accounting body with nearly 4.1 lakh members and over 10 lakh students pursuing CA education across India.
Emphasising ethics and transparency, he said Chartered Accountants play a critical role in strengthening corporate governance, investor confidence and sustainable economic growth.
He also underlined the role of CAs in supporting MSMEs by helping businesses adopt structured accounting systems, improve financial discipline, access institutional credit and comply with GST regulations.Quoting the Thirukkural verse,“கற்க கசடறக் கற்பவை கற்றபின்

he stressed the importance of lifelong learning and professional integrity.
Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Coimbatore ICAI Chairman Survajith S. Krishnan highlighted the increasing demand for Chartered Accountants and the strong practical exposure provided through the Articleship training system.
He stated that campus placement opportunities for newly qualified Chartered Accountants are witnessing significant growth across sectors.
He also said the Coimbatore branch has been actively conducting seminars, professional development programmes and knowledge-sharing sessions to help members stay updated with changes in taxation laws and emerging industry trends.
Describing the convocation as a proud moment for the city, he thanked the ICAI leadership for recognising Coimbatore as a convocation centre for the first time.
Regional Council Members Rajesh and A.V. Arun, members of the profession, parents and distinguished guests participated in the event.
The convocation concluded on a celebratory note as the newly qualified Chartered Accountants received their degrees amid applause from family members, mentors and dignitaries.
