Twitter has come up with something to make voters feel proud of having exercised their franchise. In a first-of-its-kind, the social networking giant will launch an exclusive “emoji”, a digital image, on the counting day of Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. It is expected to be a hand symbol showing “I voted”.

Twitter India Head Raheel Khursheed met Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni and told him that the design of the emoji was in the process of being developed. The social network platform has come up with various features to make tweeting interesting for its users who vote. He shared Twitter’s plans to reach people effectively on the day of the poll and counting.

Khursheed said new tools have been devised to enable lengthy election related videos to be uploaded. Rajesh Lakhoni said usually only 30-50 second duration videos could be uploaded on Twitter. This new feature was launched for the EC.

Other features include, sending those who have voted a digital signature of their favourite celebrity involved in the poll campaign, sending reminders on May 16 to vote to all the users (followers) of TN elections App and whoever tweets with the hash tag #TN100%.

“True to our motto of 100 per cent honesty and 100 per cent voting, this venture will attract a wide spectrum of people towards voting”, he added.
