The first of its kind two-wheeler ambulance service was launched by the Global Health City hospital in Chennai today. The motorbike ambulances will be able to reach areas that are nearly inaccessible by roads.

Global Health City had earlier launched the facility in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

The medical crew on these two-wheeler ambulances will consist of a paramedic trained in life support techniques and first aid, and a physician to handle medical emergencies.

In addition to regular ambulance devices, the ambulances will also be equipped with AED (Automated External Defibrillator), which checks the heart rhythm, and is extremely useful in the event of cardiac arrest. It is also used to give electric shock to the heart to restore its normal pace.

KR Rammohan, the Chief at Global Hospitals’ Accident and Emergency care, said that five motorbike ambulances will be installed initially at the hospital’s Perumbakkam campus.
