In the aftermath of the thorough drubbing that the BJP suffered in the recently concluded state assembly elections, the party’s general secretary Muralidhar Rao has accused the people of Tamil Nadu of not rewarding them with a even a single seat in the state Assembly.
His disappointment with Coimbatore was a bit sharper than the rest. “There were various talks about our strengths in Coimbatore and Kanyakumari, but even the people of these areas have not supported us. The only solace we can take from here is that our vote bank has tripled in comparison with the previous elections,” he said.
However, he claimed that the Centre will continue to support the state by providing schemes despite the lack of support. “The ministers of the NDA government have not failed to reach out to the people. But at the same time, we would also expect a democratic outcome during the upcoming elections,” he added.
Talking about the support that the Centre is providing to the states, Rao informed that the Prime Minister himself had sat down with the Chief Ministers of various states discussed the current issues for nearly five hours.
“The aim of the Centre is to provide direct support to the state government and we will not fail in that. The Prime Minister is very certain of it,” he added.
He also explained the various development schemes of the Centre claiming that they will improve connectivity for the people by developing transport feasibility.
Rao addressed a meeting held at the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Coimbatore, here on Tuesday.
Later, the Union Minister for Environment, Prakash Javadekar, also spoke on the achievements of the Centre in the past two years.
