A large number of devotees thronged the banks of river Cauvery in the Delta region and worshipped Mother Cauvery on the occasion of ‘Aadi Perukku’ festival today.

Several newly-wed couples let afloat their garlands in the water, worn during their wedding, seeking Her blessings. Women took a holy dip in the river and tied fresh mangalsutras. Unmarried women offered prayers seeking a good match.

The temple dedicated to Mother Cauvery at Pushya mandapam bathing ghat in Thiruvaiyaru wore a festive look. Villagers from in and around Thanjavur district visited the Grand Anicut (Kallanai).
Special pujas were performed in temples across Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts through which Cauvery flows. The day also brought cheers to farmers who are set to commence the samba cultivation shortly.
