City surgeon made president of International Society of Orthopaedics

A city-based orthopaedic surgeon has become the president of the prestigious International Society for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery (SICOT).

Dr. S. Rajasekaran, Chairman, Department of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Spine Surgery, Ganga Hospital, took over as president at the annual meeting of SICOT held in Rome, Italy, on September 10, a hospital release said today.

The tenure of the International President is for two years, from 2016–2018. Dr. Rajasekaran is the second Indian to become the president of the association in the last 85 years.

Headquartered at Brussels, SICOT is the largest society of orthopaedics and trauma surgery around the world, with more than 32,000 members and 127 countries. SICOT plays a significant role in promoting academics and research, and publishes an acclaimed international journal.

Rajasekaran will lead SICOT through the two years of the annual congresses in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2017 and in Montreal, Canada, in 2018.
