Bid to besiege Karnataka Bank, 51 held

Activists of Thamizhaga Makkal Vazhvurimai Kazhagam (TMVK) attempted to besiege the local branch of Karnataka Bank in Thanjavur today condemning the violence and attack on Tamil-speaking people in Karnataka, triggering tension in the area. Fifty-one activists, including eight women, were arrested.

Led by Deputy General Secretary Tamilnesan, the activists came in a procession in a bid to besiege the Karnataka Bank located at Srinivasam Pillai Road when they were arrested.

They urged both the Centre and the Karnataka Government to initiate steps to ensure the safety of Tamils living in Karnataka and their properties. They also urged the Karnataka Government to register case and arrest those were involved in the attacks there. They also demanded adequate compensation to the affected Tamils in Karnataka.
