DMK treasurer and opposition leader MK Stalin said that the party MPs will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a couple of days and pressure him to give Cauvery water for Tamil Nadu.

Scores of activists from the DMDK and other political parties joined the DMK, in the presence of Stalin, at a function in Thanjavur today. Addressing the meeting, Stalin said that the DMK would convene the meeting of party MLAs in four or five days and pass a resolution with regard to the Cauvery issue and submit the report to Tamil Nadu government.

If the Tamil Nadu government still failed to convene an all party meeting, the DMK would do so and take constructive measures to pressure the Central government to obtain Cauvery water, he said.

Stalin said that the DMK filed a petition in court on the local body elections, so that the elections are conducted properly and not out of fear to face the polls. “It is the court and not the DMK which cancelled the local body elections,” he added.

With the elections postponed for December by the court, the DMK is ever prepared, he said.
