The police cyber crime wing today registered a case against Hindu Makkal Katchi president Arjun Sampath for his social media post, in which he was seen performing pooja to fire arms and sword, on Ayudha Pooja day.

The controversial post drew flak from various quarters and the police registered a case this evening against Sampath under Section 153 (promoting disharmony and enmity between community), police said.

Though, Sampath had withdrawn the post, several political parties and social organisations today submitted memoranda to the police commissioner to take stringent legal action against Sampath, as it could disturb peace in the region. The memoranda sought to investigate whether the gun and rifle shown in the post have valid licenses, police said.
