Claiming that untouchability still prevailed in various parts of the district, the Social Justice Party today urged the District Collector to take stringent action against those involved in this practice.

In a memorandum to the Collector, the party President N Paneerselvam said that untouchability, like the two-tumbler system and depriving of haircut at public saloons, was prevailing in Sulur, Kinathukudavu, Annur, Pollachi and nearby areas.

Despite many complaints, no action was taken in this regard and the officials appeared to be hand in glove with the violators, he said, and urged that immediate and stringent action be taken against these persons.

Paneerselvam also said that the condition of some Adi Dravidar hostels was pathetic and that the wardens were being untruthful about the numbers of students. The food was not served for the inmates, who were below 10, as against the wardens’ claims of over 50, he alleged.
